And you think it”s tough being a conservative in your state, try being one here in Massachusetts. As you have probably heard, we have an open Senate seat in our state as the career politician, John Kerry who has been a Senator for way to long has moved on up the ladder. This means we will soon have a special election to replace him, and of course this means we need a candidate. And our Massachusetts Republican Committee has found the perfect one.

Gabriel Gomez is entering the U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts to replace Sec. of State John Kerry (JEWEL SAMAD/AFP/Getty Images)

Yes, the new “Golden Boy” of the party has taken out his papers and has announced his candidacy. His name is Gabriel Gomez of Cohasset, a businessman and former Navy Seal. He says he will be an independent voice, and an outsider. He comes from a family which immigrated from Columbia and is bi-lingual. Everything we Republicans could ever ask for. Except for one thing, he has a history of supporting Democrats like Barack Obama in 2008.

When is the Republican party in the Commonwealth going to realize that a republican will never win in this state until they actually find a real one? And even then they won’t stand much of a chance. Take Scott Brown for example. First, if I recall correctly, Brown was not the Republican choice when he first ran in the special election of 2009. He won the primaries so they had no choice but to back him. Once he was elected then he was their favorite. He won because the Democrats didn’t take him seriously and many Democrats stayed home and the Tea Party managed to get out the vote. In 2012, when he ran for reelection, he lost even though all polls showed people liked him, thought he was doing a good job and believed he was doing what was right for the state. His problem? He was a Republican. Even though Brown trashed the Republican party brand every chance he had, he still lost. The voters in Massachusetts, mostly Democrats, don’t want someone who is going to do good things for the state, they want someone who is going to vote the Democratic Party line.

So now the Republicans seem to be backing Gomez, at least unofficially. On the surface he is the perfect “Republican”, the son of immigrants, bi-lingual, a businessman, a Washington outsider, who could possibly object to him? You mean other than true conservatives and the Democrats? Not this Conservative, that’s for sure.

I suppose everyone thought I had disappeared from the blogging world, but alas, no, I have just been working, getting ready for the new round of taxes which are coming to we residents of Massachusetts. It seems our Governor, being the good Democrat he is, is going to raise all our taxes so we can continue to pay for all the programs we have and don’t need.

Yup it seems that “Tax em all” Deval is going to raise taxes by $1.9 million. He wants to raise the income tax by 1%, from 5.5 to 6.25%, and then he is talking about raising the gas tax and raising tolls and even adding new ones. We’ll have all the gory details tomorrow, but it won’t be pretty, at least not for those f us who actually work for a living.

“Trust me. I’m from te government.”

It’s funny though, no one mentions cutting spending as a way to close the budget. No one mentions the fraud and abuse of the welfare system or all the free stuff we give to illegal immigrants in this state. Nope, we can’t save any money there.

But what really gets me is how our esteemed governor keeps telling us how we need to improve the transportation infrastructure. According to him, we need to upgrade the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) more affectionately known as the “T”. Of course they neglect to tell you how much money we have already thrown into the “T”, an entity which hasn’t made money in years. Perhaps we should look at eliminating all those patronage jobs and bloated salaries and pensions first? Better yet, why don’t we privatize it? And like any good democrat, Patrick insists we need high speed rail throughout the state, we just need to have a quicker way to get from Boston to Springfield. Of course you realize that most people in Boston have no idea where Springfield is and certainly can’t think of any reason to go there.

Yup, let’s raise taxes and make it harder on the working people. Pretty soon there will be no reason to stay here, well unless you are an illegal alien or a state worker.

Have you heard the one about the Republicans who warned Barack Obama about cheer leading as the country goes over the “Fiscal Cliff”?

Well according to the Washington Times that is exactly what they did Monday after the President held a rally, effectively taking a “victory lap” after “forcing them to concede on tax increases”. I have a word of advice for the Republicans, I don’t think the President or anyone else for that matter, are listening to you.

Joe is the only one without his thumbs up his… from Philly.com

Once again you have shown the world how dysfunctional you really are. You don’t have a leader, you don’t have a plan, you have become as big a part of the problem in Washington as your opponents. You have all become the same, self-serving politicians who care nothing about your constituents, but only concerned about “going along to get along”, making sure you get reelected, gaining more power along the way, becoming just another professional, life-time politician.

And I don’t want to hear how terrible it is that you had to work over the holidays to reach an agreement. You didn’t have to wait so long, it isn’t like you didn’t know this was coming. I don’t need to hear you whining on the Sunday talk shows, I don’t need to hear you complaining about hard you work, I don’t need to hear about how no one can work together and get anything done, and I certainly don’t want to hear you justify your latest pay increase.

Here is another tidbit, this one from Philly.com:

“It shouldn’t have taken this long to come to an agreement, and this shouldn’t be the model for how we do things around here,” said Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, who negotiated the agreement with Vice President Joe Biden.

You’re right Mitch, it shouldn’t have taken this long, and it shouldn’t be the model of how things are done, but it did and it is. You all seem so surprised that this happened, but it is no different than with anything else. You procrastinate, delay, argue, put-off on anything of real importance to the people you supposedly represent, you know the ones who pay your bloated salaries and do nothing.

It is time for a change and we have two years to prepare. We, as Conservative need to start finding real conservatives to run in 2014. We, as a country, can no longer afford to pay people to do nothing, like we do now with all our congress people. We need to change, or we are doomed.

Here in beautiful Massachusetts we have a problem. Really we have a lot of problems, but at least in the political spectrum, they all seem to stem from place: The fact that we have a one party system on Beacon Hill. Okay, okay, in reality we have a two party system, but since the overwhelming majority is Democrat and some of the Republicans are certainly questionable.

For example in yesterday’s Boston Herald, we learn the most of the recommendations on EBT reform have been ignored by the legislature.

The panel reviewing the EBT system took a pass on major reforms yesterday, but Republicans are promising a fight in the state Legislature in the new year to fix the abuse-ravaged system once and for all.

I know, we Republicans are so evil and mean because we don’t want all those poor folks out there to be able to use our money to purchase those necessities of life , like tattoos, hair extensions, lottery tickets or liquor. After all, you got to look good when you hit the local club.

Well I suppose I can just trust the Democrats, after all they tell us this just isn’t the case, again from the same article :

Opponents of tougher measures argued there’s not enough evidence of widespread EBT card abuse.

It doesn’t matter that the Herald, Fox25 News and even the Boston Globe have had undercover investigations which have uncovered this abuse. The EBT system is a system where people are allowed to receive cash on their EBT cards (which you and I pay for through our taxes) and pretty much spend it as they wish.

Rep. Shaunna O’Connell (R), who since her election has fought for reform of the system sums it up nicely as quoted in the Herald article:

“Basically the only thing this report does is recommend more education for clients and more enforcement, but that’s subject to appropriation, which means it’s never going to happen,” O’Connell said.

I guess like everything else in this state it is just business as usual. Whether it’s abuse of EBT cards, the fact that some criminals like child molesters deserve a second chance and are let out of jail, if they go at all, and even though another Democrat pleaded guilty to voter fraud, we don’t need voter ID laws, our one party state legislature turns a blind eye. “Nothing to see here folks. Move along.”

Things are beginning to change in Massachusetts. After the disappointing results (or more accurately the lack of any) in November, many conservatives have had enough. From the local tea party movement to ticked off republicans, changes are in the offing.

One group, which I have become affiliated with is the Massachusetts Conservative Assembly. In this last election there were 81 House seats and 21 Senate seats which went uncontested in our State Legislature. That is over half. Talking to others I have found the main reason is that the state committee in some areas wasn’t actively involved in recruiting candidates. There were cases when candidates had to beg for money from the state committee and were refused. The question is why?

Many believe that the current GOP in Massachusetts has a certain agenda, much like the national GOP, where they will support only candidates who fit their profile of what a republican and conservative should be. With the horrendous track record in this state, that obviously isn’t working. But then it all starts at the top.

The last chairman, Bob Maginn, used to work for Mitt Romney, a definite establishment Republican who, although a conservative by the warped Massachusetts Republican standards, was more of an “Obama Light” (no, that isn’t a racist comment so give it up) than a true conservative. Maginn even donated to the reelection campaign of Deval Patrick, our very leftist governor. Doesn’t that just give you an air of confidence in where his loyalties might be? Fortunately Maginn has decided to resign, which opens the door for a new chair person.

So what does the establishment do? They recommend we all support one of their own, Kirsten Hughes. Now I don’t know Kirsten and I am sure she is a very fine and respectable woman (after all she is a Republican) but do we really need another Chairperson with ties to an established candidate, Scott Brown, who more than likely will either run for the Senate again, if John Kerry goes to Washington, or for Governor? In case you forgot, Brown lost the election after being the most popular senator from this state in a long, long time. This may be because he decided to run as a Democrat in this last light, again, doing as so many Republicans seem to do, changing themselves into something they aren’t so they get reelected.

I may be fighting an uphill battle here, but it is time for true conservatives to start standing up, especially in the blue states, but even in the national arena for true conservative beliefs. Maybe it is too late, who knows, but I know I won’t give up without a fight.

If there are any other Massachusetts Conservatives out there who would like to blog her at “The Massachusetts Conservative“” or from any other of the 56 states which President Obama believes exist let me know by sending me an email at imjustmusing@gmail.com.

Dear Santa,

I know a lot of my friends stopped believing in you a long time ago, but I know you are real. After all look at all the people who are getting free stuff from your head elf, Barack. They are getting free cell phones, birth control pills, abortions, food stamps and medical care. And they say there is no Santa Claus.

So Santa, here is what I want for Christmas this year:

Checking his list – Orlando Sentinel

I know I have always been a Conservative, and have really tried to be a good one, but can you make me a liberal? I am tired of working hard and giving my money to others who aren’t working, I want it to be the other way around.

I would also like the ability to be able to ignore facts when I am discussing politics. like the Democrats do. I want to be able to just make things up as I go along and when someone points out I am wrong, I will just call them names.

I would also like the learn how to that thing liberals do when they know they are wrong and they kind of shrug their shoulders and roll their eyes an say, “I’m not going to talk to you any more, you don’t understand.”

If you have room in your bag, could you also give me some of that money that the government is giving away for “Green” projects. I can make believe I am inventing a new solar powered wind turbine, and I can spend the money foolishly and then blame everyone else for my failing.

Santa, please help me to stop believing that God is smarter than I am, like the left does. They ignore His laws and replace them with their own moral code which is really an immoral code and don’t even feel guilty about it. I want to be able to do that.

Please bring me a parachute so I will be saved when we go over the fiscal cliff.

Please let me learn how to speak Chinese, just in case,

Finally, let me go through life as a good liberal, with blinders on, drinking the Kool-Aid.

That’s pretty much it Santa, if it is too much to ask, then I will settle for the pony I asked for back in 1962.

What happens when true conservatives have had enough of the republican nonsense? What happens when they get tired of the likes of John Boehner trying to convince us that he is a conservative? They get angry. And once they get angry they decide to do something about it. In Massachusetts a group of these angry conservatives have decided to form a new group called the “Massachusetts Conservative Assembly” to combat the dilution of the Republican party. Keep in mind, Massachusetts is the bluest of blue states and any battle is an uphill one when going against the Democratic machine, but it becomes even harder when the Republican State Committee is almost as blue as the Dems. These are the ones (Republican State Committee) who were elated because we were in the “Super Bowl”. Evidently winning isn’t as important to them as just showing up.

Now I could go on and on about the “cupcake society” we live in here in Massachusetts, where everyone gets a cupcake just for participating, that might be fine in kindergarten, but in politics cupcakes are for, well cupcakes. The state committee had no plan, no communication, no real goals and no execution. We lost a senate seat to a candidate who is more left than John Kerry, even though Scott Brown was not quite as conservative as some would have liked, at least he was almost conservative. We gained no House seats, instead reelecting the husband of a convicted felon and another Kennedy. And at the state level, we had 81 seats go UNCONTESTED.

And people wonder why we are angry? And even worse, the republican state committee had no plans for the future, no proposals and no idea as to what should be done. Like the national party their answer seems to be “Let’s become more like the Democrats!” Sorry, that just ain’t going to work.

A new group has been formed in Massachusetts called the Massachusetts Conservative Assembly. The

y are bringing everyone together, no matter what stripe they are, no matter what “group” they belong to, as long as they believe in true American conservatism. You know things like, free enterprise, free speech, freedom of religion, the Second Amendment, personal responsibility, fiscal responsibility, you know, little things.

The only way for conservatives to take back the republican party is to begin replacing the establishment, old school, republicans, who are no longer conservatives and replacing them with people who actually believe in conservative principles. This group is taking the first step.

The answer for conservatism is not to change to be more like the liberals, but instead to change to be more like conservatives. When this happens, then we’ll let the left eat the cupcakes, we’ll eat the caviar.

Today is December 7th, the 71st anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the entrance on the U.S. into World War Two. There are not many alive who still remember that event. It has been replaced by other more recent events, 911 for one. I suppose we can argue on whether that is good or not, whether we should hold on to the past or not, but as it has been said “Those who fail to remember history are doomed to repeat it.” As one who considers myself to be a conservative, I certainly feel we need to remember the past because if we do not we will repeat it. We also need to remember what our fathers, grandfathers, great grandfathers and fore fathers did to make this country what it is today. They fought the battles to keep us free, they fought the battles to give us what we are today, they fought the battles which made us the greatest nation on earth.

USS Hawkins

There are many who think that we are slowly sinking. I am one. I believe our current president is against every thing which our forefathers fought for, capitalism free enterprise, the rule of law, personal freedom, religious freedom, and this angers me to no end.

I am going to relate a personal story about my dad if you’ll indulge me. My father enlisted in the Navy when he graduated from High School in 944. He was what they call a “plank owner” on a destroyer called the U.S.S. Hawkins. After a shakedown cruise and a voyage to Pearl Harbor, his ship was to be part of a convoy across the Pacific and while they never really new their destination at the time, they new it was something big. They were headed to Okinawa, where the navy, especially destroyers, suffered heavy losses from kamikazes.

Shortly after leaving Pearl Harbor, there was a fire on the ship, I don’t recall where my dad told me it was, but they had to turn back to Pearl, even though the Captain didn’t want to. Flash forward to 1999. My dad never wanted to attend any reunions of the crew, even though my mother always wanted her to. After she passed, my dad asked me if I would like to drive him to Gettysburg to meet with two of his shipmates, who he hadn’t seen for over fifty years. Of course I would was the only answer. To make a long blog post short, I asked about the fire and which one of them started it, which, no, tit wasn’t set, but it did bring some laughs. it then became serious and one of them said this, something I will never forget:

“We were just dumb kids, and looking back now it was probably a good thing we did turn back even though we were pissed because none of us might might not be here right now. But you know what? We would have gone, and would do it again.”

They were “dumb kids” but they would do it all again. That should say something to each and every one of us. And more importantly I wonder if we would do it again? I wonder if those “dumb kids” will be there when we need them? Will today’s “dumb kids” be there when our freedom is threatened whether from inside or outside the country?

I would like to think so but I seriously wonder.

In the classic Christmas Movie “White Christmas” there is a scene when the four main characters arrive on a train in Vermont to find there is no snow. I believe Bing Crosby says something like “The only thing harder to find is a Democrat.” I used to feel the same way about Conservatives here in Massachusetts.

This last election cycle has begun to change my mind. Conservatism in Massachusetts is alive and well, if somewhat bruised and battered. I believe November 6, 2012 was a wakeup call for conservatives here in Massachusetts. We learned a lot of things in November, and realized there needs to be changes made.

A little history

People in New England, especially natives, tend to be a different breed. For the most part, we have those old Yankee traits of working hard, trusting and minding our own business. It’s this trusting thing that gets us into trouble. In our case here in Massachusetts we made the mistake of trusting the state’s Republican Party leadership. We actually believed them when they said they were conservatives and believed in conservative principles. We believed them when they said they were just like us. We said nothing.

We were wrong. We were lied to. We were bamboozled. Now, I’ll be the first to admit, even though I am on the second half of my century, I only recently became active in politics. So maybe I don’t know what a conservative really is. Maybe my definition is different than the Massachusetts Republican establishments. Somehow though I don’t think it’s me. Conservatism to me means fiscal responsibility, free markets, believing in the Constitution, believing the Founding Fathers were right and that it is not the Government’s job to take care of those who refuse to take care of themselves. If I am wrong on these points then I’ll call myself something else.

Massachusetts GOP Accomplishments?

On November 14, the Massachusetts Republican Committee held a meeting to critique the election results. There was much joy because after all “We had reached the Super Bowl” Maybe so, but we lost. Yes they were quite proud of their “accomplishments”. Again, I know I shouldn’t get mired in definitions, but I am not sure not electing a President, losing a Senate seat to a leftist nut, not gaining one Congressional seat even with the corrupt Congressman we have and not gaining anything in the state legislature is an accomplishment. In fact there were over 80 seats in the state legislature which were not even contested.

But these are what the MA GOP committee claims are accomplishments. And it is these accomplishments that, at least in my opinion, have finally shaken the Conservatives out of the trees and calling them to action. They are fed up with the Republican party and even some Democrats are fed up with their party as well. They are fed up with having no say in what the party does, where it spends or doesn’t spend its money, and having candidates who don’t believe in the same ideals that they do, shoved down their throats. (Regarding Democrats, ask how many in the state wanted Elizabeth Warren as their candidate. All others candidates were forced out of the primaries.)

I am proud to say there is a resurgence of the Conservative movement in my state. There are those of us who still believe and are working to bring all together to make change. Whether it is changing the established Republicans or some other course, change is coming. It won’t be easy and it <a href="In the classic Christmas Movie “White Christmas” there is a scene when the four main characters arrive on a train in Vermont to find there is no snow.
